Outlook displaying metered connection warning

Symptoms

Resolution

If the network connection isn't set as metered:

  1. Exit Outlook
  2. Open the Registry Editor with elevated permissions
  3. Navigate to the key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\ClickToRun\REGISTRY\MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\SecurityManager
  4. Right click on the SecurityManager key and select permissions
  5. Click the advanced button
  6. Add the current user account with Full Access permission
  7. Check the Replace all child object permission entries with inheritable permission entries from this object box
  8. Click OK twice
  9. Delete the SecurityManager key
  10. If the problem persists after removing the key, run an Office repair from Settings > Apps > Installed Apps > Manage (applicable Office version)
